Pascal Dumy

Biography

Pascal Dumy is Professor at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (ENSCM) of which he has been serving as the director since 2012. He also directs the IBMM, a research institute encompassing more than 200 people dealing with chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and biology of biomolecules to study and modulate key pathological processes involved in health problems.

Before his actual position, from 1998 to 2012 he served as full professor at the université Grenoble Alpes, Director of the Department of Molecular Chemistry in Grenoble as well as Director of the international laboratory “Biomolecular Engineering” a joined venture between the université Grenoble Alpes, CNRS and the Université Libre de Bruxelles where he also was associated professor. He was Postdoctoral Fellow, (1993-1995), Research Associate, (1995-1997) and Assistant Professor (1997-1998) at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Lausanne University, Switzerland. He earned his PhD at the Université of Montpellier in 1993.

He has more than 250 publications and 9 patents. He has held numerous international and national responsibilities such as member of the ERC Panel 5, Vice Chair Quality Controller of the European Innovation Council, (Pathfinder Open program – Horizon Europe) or Scientific Delegate of the French Agency for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education. He has been a key actor in the structuring and creation of several initiatives in Grenoble and Montpellier as well.

Prof P. Dumy’s general expertise is focused on the molecular engineering of biomolecules recognition features for the rational design of systems with integrated tailor-made properties in the field of biotech area such as drug targeting, molecular imaging and tailor-made medicine.

Abstract

We will present an overview of the researches and higher education in chemistry currently developped in Montpellier with a focus of international relationship with Brazil and corresponding putative opportunities for researchers and students exchanges.
